Drexel Homeschool Families Lending Library
Policies and Procedures

All the believers were one in heart and mind.
No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own,
but they shared everything they had.
Acts 4:32

Patrons: Only members of the Drexel Homeschool Families group may check out materials. A list of current members will be maintained by the Lending Library coordinator. Only members in good standing will be allowed to check out books. Good standing is defined as current usage fee paid and no outstanding fines. UP

All patrons are responsible for becoming familiar with all DHF library policies.

Materials: Donations will remain the property of the DHF library until such a time as the materials are no longer usable or the library is discontinued. If the DHF library is discontinued, any materials that are in the property of the library will be sold at a used book sale and the proceeds donated to the Drexel branch of the Cass County Library. The DHF library will shelf curricula, tools, games, videos, audio tapes, and kits that relate to home education only. The library will not carry items that are available through the Cass County Library system. The only exception to this will be materials that may be a part of a unit study of a curriculum package. The library coordinator will have the final say on which items will be made a part of the permanent collection. Any items that are donated and are not needed at the library will be sold or given away at the end of the year at a curriculum sale with any proceeds going to support the DHF library. UP

Lending : In order to insure that the maximum amount of materials are available for everyone, the following lending policies are in effect. There will be four different lengths of time materials may be borrowed. Each item will be color coded to indicate how long it may be borrowed.

The materials will break down as follows:
Blue Items - lending time – School year period (9/01 – 5/31)

Green Items - lending time - 1 month, may be renewed once

Pink Items - lending time - 2 weeks, may be renewed once

Yellow Items - lending time 2 weeks, not renewable

Please be considerate… if you have checked out an item and are not using it; return it as soon as possible. Some one else may be waiting to check it out.

ALL MATERIALS must be seen returned to the
library by may 31 st.
ITEMS MAY BE checked out again after june 15 th

Replacement costs will be based on what it would cost to buy the item new, since we can not count on availability at used book sales. There will be a loss of DHF lending library privileges until all fines are paid. UP

Loss of DHF Lending Library Privileges : Any member who has outstanding fines will not be able to check out materials until all fines are paid. Any member that loses or damages any material is responsible for the replacement cost of that item. Any member that habitually fails to care for materials will be suspended from the library. This suspension will last for one school year at which time the member can be reinstated. If materials are neglected a second time, this member will be suspended permanently. Remember, you as the adult are responsible for the behavior of your children. UP

Library Committee : The library committee will consist of two volunteer members of DHF and the library coordinator. The committee will be responsible for selecting new/used materials to be purchased for the library, reviewing donated items for acceptability into the library, and reviewing membership privileges/suspension.

Please remember, children are not allowed in the library bins. The materials there are in a specified order to make it easier for you to find the materials you are looking for with a minimum amount of effort.

Check Out Procedures:

1. The book pocket will contain a card that has the book title. The card will be blue, green pink or yellow.
2. Stamp the card with the date stamp that MATCHES the color of the card AND write your name next to the date. This will ensure that you have the proper amount of lending time for the materials checked out.
3. Place the stamped card in the CHECKED OUT file box
4. Replace the card from the book with a slip of paper. Stamp it with the same stamp you used to stamp the card. This becomes your reminder for when the book is due. UP

Return Procedures :

1. Return all materials to the RETURN ITEMS bin
2. DO NOT reshelf any items
3. DO NOT remove any items from the plastic bins UP

Renewal Procedures :

1. Renewals must take place during the lunch at co-op on the 2nd or 4th Thursday of the month.
2. Find your card in the box marked ON LOAN under the week it is due. Re-stamp with the correct color stamp.
3. You will be notified either by e-mail or snail mail when you have a fine due. Remember fines must be paid before any other materials can be checked out. Any fines that are due may be paid to the library staff member or library coordinator. UP

Library Organization : All curriculum is shelved (in plastic bins) according to grade. Each grade is also categorized by the system that follows: at the back toward the wall and moving to the front of the bin:

Each section mentioned above (1-6) is further delineated by the following:

1. Teacher's Edition/Guide text
2. Student text book
3. Teacher's Test Key
4. Student Test booklet
5. Teacher's Quiz Key
6. Student Quiz booklet
7. Teacher's Activity Book Key
8. Student Activity Book

It would be helpful to others if when looking through the curriculum that you would kindly replace each book in the correct order to make it easier for others to locate that book with the minimum amount of effort! UP

Library Catalog : For your convenience three copies of the total library's curriculum is available to you on floppy disc, which may be checked out and used by you at home. You will need to have the MS Excel program or something compatible in order to view it. There is also a hard copy printed out in a folder for you to look at. Please note: the floppy disc and the folders have three ways to find a certain piece of curriculum:

1. Filed by grade under section headings
2. Filed by publisher under section headings
3. Filed by title alphabetically under section headings UP
